Isoyvesia Özdikmen, 2009
Main Page | Isopoda > Microcerberidea > Microcerberidae > Isoyvesia
Suggested Common Name: Striped Cerberus
Number of subordinate taxa: Monotypic, endemic to our region
Etymology: Iso- + Yvesia = after Yves Coineau, presumably related to one of the original authors; a combination of the former genus name (see Taxonomic history) and iso(pod). See species for reasoning for common name.
Taxonomic History: Yvesia Coineau & Botosaneau, 1973 [nom. praeoc. by Yvesia (= Crella (Yvesia)) Topsent, 1890 (Porifera: Demospongiae: Crellidae)]; Isoyvesia Özdikmen, 2009
Size Range: to 1.6mm
Description: (based off of Wägele, Voelz & Vaun McArthur, 1995 and Coineau & Botosaneanu, 1973) Head without a rostral point. Antennae 1 segment 3 medially produced into a point. Maxilliped segments 2-3 expanded, much larger than the others. Pereopods 1-7 basis lacking a spiny swelling. Pereopod 1 propus with 3 serrated spines. Pleopod 1 absent. Pleopod 4 short, rami at least partly covered by pleopod 3. Pleopod 4 biramous. Pereopods 2-4 coxae ring-shaped, ♂ pleopod 2 endopod uniramous, slender, elongate. Uropod protopod short; exopod of uropod 1/3rd as long as endopod
Type taxon: Isoyvesia striata (Coineau & Botosaneau, 1973)
Notes: This is the only other marine genus in Microcerberidae in our area outside of Coxicerberus. It can easily be told from Coxicerberus by the lack of coxal plates. The most similar genus in our area to Isoyvesia is Texicerberus, which can be distinguished from Isoyvesia by the antennae spination and the narrower maxilliped palp along with range.
Subordinate taxa: Isoyvesia striata
