GLOSSARY OF TERMS
The glossary of terms is currently incomplete. More terms will be added below as more taxon accounts are made.
Pauropoda:
anal plate: a lamellaceous organ projecting from the rear margin of either the pygidium sternum or tergum
a setae (head): tergal setae of the head arranged in 4 transverse rows of, from anteriorly to posteriorly, 4, 6, 4, and 8 setae.
a setae (pygidium): posterior group of setae of the pygidium tergum
a1 setae: medial pair of setae of the pygidial a group
a2 setae: positionally intermediate pair of setae of the pygidial a group
a3 setae: lateral pair of setae of the pygidial a group
bract: spine like projections along the rim of the globulusÂ
b setae: setae of the pigidium sternum
b1 setae: posteromedial pair of setae of the pygidial b group
b2 setae: lateromost pair of setae of the pygidial b group
b3 setae: anteromedial pair of setae of the pygidial b group
calyx: differentiated terminal segment of an antennal flagellum
capsule: ovoid organ at the tip of the globulus
collum: first trunk segment
d setae: anterior group of setae of the pygidium tergum
d1 setae: medial pair of setae of the d group
d2 setae: lateral pair of setae of the d group
flagellum: segmented apical filament of the antennae
globulus: cup or chalice shaped sensory organ on sternal antennal branch
globulus': reductive organ similar to the globulus on third antennal segment
pistil: internal organ of the temporal organ extending from the posterior surface
pygidium: terminal body segment
temporal organ: large sac like organ on either side of the head
trichobothria: long differentiated sensory setae paired on either side of a trunk segment
trunk: main body, encompassing all segments in between the head and pygidium
st setae: pair of apical median setae of the pygidium tergum, often heavily modified
